Dia de Los Muertos

HOLLYWOOD, CALIFORNIA, USA – Updates have been scarce this past week because the boyfriend and I have been busy traveling. We left northern Idaho just over a week ago and have since driven the entirety of Washington, Oregon and California. These days we’re in southern California, mostly spending time in the greater Los Angeles area, and we’ll be around here most of this month.

November 2nd was El Dia de Los Muertos, the Day of the Dead. Each year at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery (just behind Paramount Pictures) thousands of people come together to celebrate this traditional Mexican holiday, and we joined my sister and her husband as they headed into Hollywood for the festivities. There, we found tombs intricately decorated and in competition with each other, authentic food, face painting, concerts, traditional dancing, crafts and shopping, artwork from local Mexican artists, and people having a really great time.

It was truly fantastic.
